Computer Animation Research

The main focus of the work is on 3D physical modelling and the control of objects in animations. Systems have been developed to act as test beds for animation techniques. The use of `sphere-trees' for collision detection between polyhedra, parallel computation for accelerating the generation of animations and novel methods of object control are all areas of interest.

The work also has applications in the field of virtual environments, since real-time animation is one of the essential requirements of most VR systems.

The use of object-oriented techniques for animation has led to an interest in their suitability for such systems.
