School of Informatics - Mission StatementPlease note: This site is no longer being maintained, information contained in this site may be innacurate or out of date. the School of Informatics is now the School of Computing, Informatics and Media.
The accelerating convergence of information technology, telecommunications and media, and the increasing importance of mobility, is increasing the relevance and impact of informatics. The mission of the School is to provide an international class research and learning environment, and continue to advance the multi-disciplinary programme of research and education in computer science, digital media and its creative uses, cybernetics, and the Internet. Through the expansion of postgraduate and research activities and the continued development and advancement of the curriculum, the School aims to capitalise on its position as a leader in its field in the UK and Europe, and continue to attract high calibre students and staff to Bradford. "local, national, and international collaborators..." A research programme with local, national, and international collaborators provides the springboard for exciting and innovative work. This in turn benefits the teaching programme, by ensuring that the syllabuses are relevant and up to date, and able to develop the transferable skills which will prepare the graduates for the cutting edge of the fast-moving commercial world. The School receives strategic guidance from an Industrial Advisory Board with an international membership. The School has an exciting collaboration with the adjacent National Media Museum (http://www.nationalmediamuseum.org.uk/). "...spirit of entrepreneurship" In line with UK government's policy for higher education reach-out to business and the community, the School is placing increasing emphasis on its links to industry via pump-priming initiatives, incubator units, and consultancy. This in turn fosters the development of a spirit of entrepreneurship in the School's staff and students.
